That"s Fresh: Citroen Is Resurrecting The C4 Hatchback

The slow-selling C4 hatchback was dropped last year, and Citroen now has the C4 Cactus pseudo-crossover to compete in the compact segment.

However, in a surprising move, the French firm will reportedly bring the C4 hatch back, reports AutoExpressafter talking to the company’s CEO, Linda Jackson, who admitted that the regular C4 hatchback is still “extremely important” to them.
“I’m not saying we’re going to get rid of Cactus, but we will introduce a new C-segment car“, Jackson said. “It’ll be in the sector, but it will not be traditional. Nor will it necessarily be the C4 Cactus. As time evolves, we’ll move back into what we call our core model strategy, which will be to have a C-segment car.”
Introduced in 2010 and facelifted four years later, the second generation Citroen C4 shared its underpinnings with the first-gen Peugeot 308. The latter was replaced by an entirely new car in 2013, which won the 2014 European Car of the Year award.
PSA’s next logical step would be to use common pl…

2018 Ford Kuga Must Tick A Lot Of Boxes To Make It Into Buyers" Shortlist

On paper, the new Ford Kuga (aka the Escape in the U.S.) has everything it takes to compete against the best in its class.

The latest version of Ford’s SUV comes with sharp looks and the company’s latest tech. The cabin is big enough for hauling a family, although not as big compared to rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq.
The interior mixes soft-touch materials with hard plastics and the dashboard has a distinctive design that’s compromising its ergonomics in certain places. The SYNC3 infotainment system offers clear graphics and all the options you could want from an SUV of this class.
Engine choices include a 1.5-liter EcoBoost petrol with 120hp, 150hp and 180hp, a 1.5-liter TDCi diesel with 120hp and a 2.0-liter TDCi diesel with either 150 or 180hp. You can get a six-speed automatic transmission with the petrol engines and a PowerShift dual-clutch unit with the diesels.
The rather firm suspension of the Kuga isn’t ideal at low speeds, while the claimed sporty character doesn’t translate into…

Want A New Rolls-Royce Phantom? This German Dealer Already Has One In Stock

It hasn’t been two months since Rolls-Royce started producing the new Phantom, and you can bet that most of them built to date have gone to eagerly awaiting customers.

If you put down a deposit early enough, you may not have to wait too long before your build slot comes up. But if you didn’t, and can’t wait, there’s one already listed for sale on James Edition.
Crafted in black over black with orange leather accents inside, this limousine is listed by Hollmann International out of Bremen – the same city where Mercedes builds the SL, SLC, C-Class, E-Class, and GLC at its largest plant.
Like any other example of the new Phantom VIII, it comes equipped with a mammoth 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine, sending 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission in the most serene manner possible.
This is a the normal wheelbase model, but at 139.8 inches (over eleven and a half feet) from grille to tail, it’s even longer than a Cadillac Escala…

Is The VW Up GTI Really Channeling The Original Golf GTI?

VW has launched a proper GTI version of the Up city car, and now it’s time to find out whether it deserves that badge or not.

The company wants you to think the new Up GTI as a modern reincarnation of the original Golf GTI. If this sounds like too far-fetched, consider that the two cars are similar both in size and performance.
Power comes from a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder TSI engine that makes 113hp and 170lb-ft of torque. The 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint takes 8.8 seconds and the Up GTI won’t stop accelerating until it hits a respectable 122mph (196km/h).
Three-cylinder engines always produced a rather special, almost boxer-like, soundtrack, and the Up GTI is no exception – and that, in our books, is a big plus.
Of course, being a modern GTI means that the range-topping Up comes packed with all the kit you could want from a car this size. On the other hand, what’s even more important, especially from a VW wearing the GTI badge, is how it fares on winding roads/
It’s not that we of…

Unsurprisingly, Alfa Romeo Missed Profits Target, Posted Losses In 2017

Despite FCA’s expectations, Alfa Romeo will not return to profit this year, Sergio Marchionne said during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is still rebuilding the Italian brand, according to Marchionne. “The losses are shrinking, but we need more volumes,” he told Automotive News.
FCA didn’t break out Alfa Romeo’s 2017 financial performance and Marchionne didn’t give a timetable for the brand’s return to profitability.
Last April FCA’s Chief Financial Officer Richard Palmer said that Alfa Romeo would be profitable in the fourth quarter of 2017. Marchionne backed that comment by saying that the Italian brand will turn a profit for 2018, but at the end of last October he appeared more cautious, saying that Alfa Romeo’s US sales were slower than expected and that the brand was also “behind the curve” in China.
FCA isn’t releasing production or sales numbers for its brands, leaving market researchers to make an estimate. JATO Dynamics say that Alfa’s globa…

Watch The New Renault Megane RS Go Flat Out

Renault has a lot to prove with the new generation Megane RS, so the car has to be better than its lauded predecessor.

First, it needs to lure some buyers away from the Ford Focus ST and Honda Civic Type R, and second, it needs to snatch the Nurburgring lap record for front-wheel drive production cars from the Honda.
But how are they planning to do so? Why, with some smart engineering, four-wheel steering, which is a segment-first, and the engine of the new Alpine A110, which was slightly updated for the French hot hatch.
The 1.8-liter engine feeds 280PS (276hp) and 390Nm (288lb-ft) of torque to the front axle, and it’s mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This allows the new Megane RS to complete the 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint in just 5.8sec.
Its top speed remains undisclosed for now, but a new video shared by L’Argus shows the hot hatch going flat out, using the Launch Control. The first part of the digital speedometer is covered in no time, and the…

Lincoln Driver Rams Police Cruiser In Kentucky, Chase Ensues

After an initial argument with a police officer, the driver of a Lincoln sedan decided to ram his car into the cruiser in order to make his escape.

The driver backed his MKZ into the officer’s Charger twice, before scraping a few other items and taking off. The officer, who seemed surprisingly calm during the MKZ driver’s antics, waited for the man to leave and then initiated pursuit.
According to the description of the video, the suspect was eventually taken into custody after ditching his car and attempting to run away on foot.
The entire incident, which took place in Carrollton, Kentucky, was captured on camera by a couple of bystanders who decided to chase after the two cars in hope of getting even more footage. As the action unfolds, it doesn’t seem as though they had any luck in catching up to the chase, at least not before the suspect ditched the Lincoln.
In situations like this, it’s best to keep your distance and not get involved in a car chase, unless you actually happen to be a…

Bright Orange McLaren 720S Looking Spiffy On 20-Inch Custom Wheels

While we don’t have to go as far as to say that orange is the new black, this particular McLaren 720S certainly doesn’t need a set of shiny new wheels in order to stand out.

The bright orange paint scheme, mixed in with the black mirrors, roof and pillars, does a fine job at that. It’s certainly a fresh take on the popular Azores Orange color scheme that we’re familiar with.
Yet, there are always more mods one can make for appearances’ sake, which is where these 20″ HRE wheels painted in Stone Dark Clear come in. The wheel manufacturer will sell you this lightweight alloy model, dubbed R101, in multiple sizes, from 17″ all the way through 21″. According to HRE, the wheels weigh a mere 16 lbs (7.2 kg) and cost $2,200 each.
Aside from looking pretty, the latest Super Series McLaren is also a formidable foe on the drag strip. In reality, it’s thought to have a lot more power than the 720 horses its name would suggest. A dyno test from November of last year showed a 720S putting down 691 WHP…

BMW Design Chief Hints That A Supercar Could Be On Its Way

There have been talks about a BMW supercar for a very long time now, and, unlike other execs in the past, the brand’s Head of Design, Jozef Kaban, has not dismissed the idea.

Speaking to BMWBlog at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, the former Skoda chief designer, who moved to BMW last year from the VW Group, where he helped pen the Bugatti Veyron, among others, leaves the door open for a potential exotic.
“I came to BMW to help with other thinking, to give them another opportunity to think about [new] things”, said Kaban. “BMW is doing great cars, maybe there is space to dream about the next [new car]maybe something more extreme“, he added. This can be interpreted as a tongue-in-cheek reference to a future supercar.
The spiritual successor of the M1 hasn’t been given the green light yet. Even so, previous reports spoke about possible electrification, as it could be developed together with their motorsport division, bringing some tech from Formula E to the road.
BMW’s supercar would apparently …

Kia Teases Super Bowl Spot With Emerson Fittipaldi And Two Stingers

Kia’s Super Bowl LII ad will see two-time F1 and Indy 500 champion Emerson Fittipaldi get behind the wheel of the 2018 Stinger and race against a yet unknown driver.

Perhaps the other driver’s identity will be revealed at a later date, or perhaps we simply won’t know who’s racing against Fittipaldi until the 60-second ad airs during the third quarter of the Super Bowl, which this year features the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.
According to the Korean automaker, both Fittipaldi as well as the unknown driver are “two eternally youthful legends who have logged seat time in some of the most powerful and exotic cars in the world.”
So we’re expecting either another iconic name from F1, IndyCar or perhaps even NASCAR, or perhaps a celebrity who may have never raced yet is no stranger to driving fast and expensive cars.
This marks Kia’s ninth consecutive year in which they have advertised one of their models during the Super Bowl, and the fact that the Stinger was chosen is by…

The Grand Tour Mixes The Old With The New In Episode 8

As sad as it is to admit, the second season of The Grand Tour is almost two-thirds complete. Fortunately, episode 9 has the makings of one of the best shows this season.

Set to hit Amazon Prime on Friday, the latest episode will focus on a blast from the past as Jeremy Clarkson drives an Aston Martin DB4GT Lightweight while Richard Hammond experiences the legendary Jaguar XKSS.
Based on this trailer, it is difficult to know if the XKSS in question is an original or instead one of the recent continuation models. Either way, it looks superb.
To shake the test up, James May will jump behind the wheel of the all-new Honda Civic Type R, a car which he claims is better in every way than the two iconic British sports cars. He’ll have to think up a pretty compelling argument if it wants us to agree.

As for this week’s new car review, Clarkson is set to drive the 2017 Ford GT, a supercar that first set the internet abuzz more than three years ago at the Detroit Auto Show. On last week’s episode, t…

E34 BMW M5 Review Makes Us Long For The 1990s

The E34, aka the second-generation BMW M5, was produced between 1989 and 1995 and remains, to this day, one of the most critically acclaimed Bimmers in history.

To be honest, it seems that most fast cars from the 90s tend to earn significant brownie points with today’s car reviewers, although it’s easy to understand why.
Most of them (and us) grew up admiring those cars that might have lacked today’s safety systems, but were anything but dull to drive. By the way, the E34 M5 weighed just 1,670 (3,682 lbs), a mere 100 kg (220 lbs) more than a Focus RS.
The E34 reviewed here by Carwow is a 1990 model and it came with some very impressive (for the time) features such as the electrically adjustable steering wheel or the fully electric front seats (with memory function). This was also the first-ever M5 to have electronic damping control.
The M5 was also praised it for its solid build quality, comfortable interior, precise steering and its exceptional 315 PS (311 HP) engine, which could get you…

Tesla Model S Crashes Into Fire Truck With Autopilot Reportedly Engaged

The Culver City, California, fire brigade shared a couple of photos on social media with a crashed Tesla Model S.

According to their Twitter page, the electric saloon crashed into the truck while doing 65mph (105km/h), on Monday morning, with the Autopilot engaged, as confirmed by the Tesla driver.
Luckily, nobody was injured, but the blacked-out Model S will need some TLC before turning heads again, as its entire front end was damaged in the crash. The hood was almost peeled off from the body, and it appears that the front suspension may have been affected as well.
On the other hand, the fire truck has minor damages that include a broken taillight, some light scratches, and dents.
“While working a freeway accident this morning, Engine 42 was struck by a Tesla traveling at 65 mph. The driver reports the vehicle was on Autopilot. Amazingly, there were no injuries! Please stay alert while driving!”, the Culver City Fire Department wrote on social media, along with the “distracted driving” h…
